How Long The Spring Feel Lasts

It sure has been nice to see signs of Spring the past few days even though the season doesn’t “officially” return until Friday. Monday, Birmingham saw its first 80 degree day since last October. We’ll enjoy two more pleasant days before clouds return to spread rain toward the end of the week. An interesting weather pattern is beginning to develop as upper-level disturbances originating in Texas swing eastward. Right now, the pattern is fairly benign. However, as we move into April, if this pattern persists, severe weather could develop across the Southeast. Often,strong troughs in the jet stream dive deep across the Lower Mississippi River valley. That orientation allows those disturbances coming out of Texas to develop super cell thunderstorms.

Fortunately, nothing like that to worry about this week. The disturbance coming out of Texas should spread rain through the Southeast beginning late Wednesday night going into Thursday and Friday. Here’s the model depiction of possible rain by Thursday morning:
